How to use the CountFileVersions command line based utility

This utility is meant to be run on the SharePoint serve (WFE) with an account that has the necessary permissions to the Site Collection.

Download the CountFileVersions.exe and save it in a folder of your choice.
Open a command prompt and navigate to this folder.

Enter the arguments for the Site Collection URL, Web URL (for sub sites) and the name of the Document Library according to this example:

CountFileVersions.exe -url http://intranet -doclib "Shared Documents"

To output the result to a text file, add the -outputfile argument like this:

CountFileVersions.exe -url http://intranet -doclib "Shared Documents" -outputfile result.txt
